Love that excitement!
It was the perfect plan. After all, everyone was unavailable, it was an incredibly inconvenient weekend, and there was no way to get friends and family together for any kind of event, much less a wedding proposal. At least it seemed as such on the surface. Andrew and Lane had discussed getting engaged and married at some point in the near future, so it was definitely something that was on their minds. And knowing Lane, it may have been the only thing, besides nursing school of course, that she has focused on for the past few months. Andrew was aware of this, so in planning the proposal, one of his main tactics employed was deception. Lane made it clear that she wanted her friends and family there when he popped the question, so he worked to make everyone’s schedules appear completely swamped. Her best friend wouldn’t be in town, her sisters were busy with school and baby showers, there was just no way. This really helped in the planning, as she was not suspicious. Any way, I thought I would share with you how the engagement of Lane and Andrew went down, as it was a very fun and crazy Saturday for sure. Since I am a Dallas wedding photographer, one of my responsibilities was to take pictures for the world to see.
Lane came into town for the weekend, and they were having what amounted to a fairly standard Saturday. Lane kept wondering if this was the day, and every time if this would be it, but nothing seemed to add up, so she had basically acknowledged the fact that she would not become engaged this weekend. They went to dinner in Addison Circle, which is one of the first places they visited when they started dating. That raised a flag, until they didn’t go to the exact spots where they had been in the past, and Andrew didn’t seem overly intense about anything. So they went to dinner at Antonio’s, where they had a nice meal but not anything over the top. Once they had received the check, then Andrew said he had a surprise. This was it!
The bow!
Nope. He had tickets to see the play Lieutenant of Inishmore with his parents, and the theater was just a stone’s throw away. At this point she had all but given up, when they started to walk past the softly lit pergola in the park. Andrew began to steer them that direction, when she said, “I don’t think we should go in there,” to which he responded, “Oh I think we should.” It was at that point that the icicle lights strung across the path and along the columns lit up. This was also the same point at which tears began flowing from Lane.
Andrew had set out five separate tables, each stood for a year of their dating relationship and had picture frames and a gift that was unique to that year. They went through each gift, and Lane had a stack of presents, but there was one final table to visit. At the final table, there was no box, just a huge yellow bow. This was where he proposed, and she said yes.
Once he pulled the ring out from under the bow, and got down on his knee, it was all over. She was so happy, and crying so much that she could barely see. Once he put the ring on her finger she hugged him and didn’t let go. Then the cheers went up. Out came everyone, her friends, her sisters, and all those closest to her. It was perfect.
Again, as the Dallas wedding photographer in the family, I was of course on hand to document everything. I hope you guys enjoy the photos, and many congratulations to Andrew and Lane. You guys are the best, and we love you so much.
