Caroline is the type of bride you dream of photographing, so when she asked Jason to photograph her bridal we both knew we were in for some fun. You see the second Caroline put on her wedding dress she instantly transformed into a model and a beautiful model at that! Caroline sat down with Jason before her bridal session and told him what she was looking for. Jason gathered all of her ideas and then she said to just surprise her with the perfect location. Caroline was looking for something edgy and modern. However the mother of the bride wanted the traditional bridals from a garden look. So we decided to first appease the bride (of course!) and then take care of mom.

The day of the bridals came around and I had the privilege of doing Caroline’s make-up for her big debut. When she arrived at her location she was overwhelmed by how perfect it was. Jason got right to shooting.

The bride wanted a more contemporary look so we broke the shoot down into three takes to capture the many sides of her. The first take was indoors in a reclined position. She quickly relaxed and became very comfortable in front of the camera. With every click of the camera Caroline struck a new pose. Then she even threw some flirty pictures in for her husband to be.

We then headed to an elevator and revolving door where her beauty was overwhelming. People were all stopping to watch the bride in action. We were asked if she were a bride or a model. She was obviously having a blast.

Jason captured Caroline’s personality in so many different ways. She was photographed from calm and beautiful to confident, sassy and just plain hot.

Just so you know we also took the bride to an unbelievable flower garden where Jason photographed her in a totally different traditional style.

Bridal Portraits, Joy!

Well, Adam and Joy celebrated their wedding last weekend down in Austin, it was a blast by the way, even with portraits outside in 104 degree weather! Talk about being troopers, I can’t wait to post some of the wedding photography. In either case, I thought it would be fun to show a few of my favorites from Joy’s bridal shoot.
As is the case with many of our brides, Joy was not used to being professionally photographed, but by the end she was definitely getting her moves down, and introducing a lot of sassiness (is that a word?) into the scene. You’ve got to love her dramatic look in the mysterious trees, that one was especially fun to create. I was going for more of a high fashion look, something that really popped and grabbed your attention. I think it worked! Thanks for checking the images out, and as always, you can see more of my wedding photography on my website.

One of the most exciting parts of bridal sessions is how creative our clients are. We love to hear the various ideas that our brides have been dreaming up for their bridal debut. Jason has photographed a variety of styles, locations and even props on bridal shoots. We look forward to sharing these various shoots with you.

The Beautiful Amy

The Beautiful Amy

When Amy met with Jason she had a concept of what she was looking for. After talking through her ideas, Jason was able to find the perfect place for her bridals, a beautiful lake in Dallas where there is a perfect little dock extending over the waters.

However, this was not your everyday bridal session. She was having some guests join her, some very furry ones. When we arrived at the lake there was entire entourage of people on hand for this bridal production. Her best friends were there along with her three very lively labs. The dogs were going wild as we were at one of their favorite locations, a lake full of ducks ready to be retrieved!

This bridal session was split up into three parts. Part One was all about the bride and her beauty. Part Two was the bride plus her furry friends, and then Part Three was when she surprised the entire group.

Part One: The bride wanted to be front and center for part one of the shoot. So while the bridesmaids held the dogs back Amy strutted her stuff in cowboy boots. Jason created beautiful images of the bride flowing gracefully along the dock. This was the more serene and traditional part of her bridal shoot.

Part Two: The second part of her bridal shoot was when things got a bit crazier. The bride was accompanied by these three very excited labs with one continuous thought shooting through their minds: DUCKS! Jason and I are both huge dog lovers, so we were pumped, and Jason was definitely up for the challenge. All we had to do was create beautiful images of the bride with her babies, getting all three dogs to look at the camera, keep the bride from being pushed into the lake, and lastly keeping all of the ducks alive and well. Oh, and the wind was blowing our reflectors around as well. By the time all of the dogs were on the end of the dock and the bride was perfectly positioned, quite a crowd had been drawn. Everyone watched as Jason and the bride completed Part II. We hope you enjoy these fun images, and we are also happy to say that all of the ducks remained safe and sound in their lake!

Part Three: This was where things really got interesting. Amy’s husband to be is an avid hunter so she wanted to have a bridal portrait done just for him. As we were positioning her and the three dogs among the cattails, one of her bridesmaids brought out one of the most unusual, or at least uncommon props we’ve seen for a bridal: a shotgun! Now, you want to talk about creating a scene. Here we are, with several dogs jumping all over the place, random people gathering, and our bride proudly gripping her shotgun. Needless to say, we had a blast with Part III, it was a great shot that we knew the groom would appreciate, and we had the opportunity to capture something fun and different. Enjoy!

Jason Kindig Bridals

Bridal Photography, meets Bridal Fashion

Bridal Photography

It is always fun shooting bridal portraits. Think about it: you have a young, beautiful bride, who has a pretty gown that she has spent months looking for, then getting it shipped in and waiting forever on alterations. She has her hair done just right, makeup on, and she is as excited as she can be about having her portraits made.

After all, these portraits serve three very important purposes: first, they serve as a greeting to all of the guests at her reception, and remind them all of how pretty she looks; second, it will knock the groom’s socks off, as she looks like a model; and three, it will serve as a reminder of the wedding day, and the couple’s love for each other for years to come. No pressure right?

I love shooting these. I just find it exciting to photograph a bride, who probably hasn’t had much professional photography done of herself, and take her from a bit nervous about the situation in the beginning, to super-confident diva with model-like poses at the end. What a cool transformation, and we of course love making our brides look like professional models.

Then there are the times that I do fashion photography of professional models, my favorite of which being when bridals and fashion intersect. That is what you have here. I recently photographed spring bridal fashion in Fort Worth for a magazine I work for. Fashion shoots are great, because you have a talented set of hair and makeup artists present, art directors, and assistants flying all over the place to adjust lighting and grip equipment. We always run a tight schedule, so things move quickly, and the pressure is always on, which gets the adrenaline going and makes for great photos every time.

I will say though, that the thing I like most is the great symbiotic process that happens between the photographer and model. It seems like we always have something to learn from each other, and can both improve a part of our creative process when the shoot is finished, or during the shoot even. Plus, by doing fashion photography on a regular basis, it gives my brides a little something extra, as I can take my fashion experience and apply it to their portrait session. In doing so we can give them a product that exceeds their expectations, which is of course what we are all about. Enjoy!
