Dallas Headshot PhotographerWhen it comes to getting a great corporate headshot, you want to make the most of it. After all, this is the headshot seen ‘round the world. Even if you don’t have plans to be a global persona just yet, chances are that your headshot will be making the rounds. It may show up anywhere from your website to social media pages, in marketing collateral or in a program for a conference you will be speaking at. No matter where it may end up, there is one question you should keep in mind: What does your headshot say about you? Also, Does the portrait make a great first impression? Now, understandably, that is two questions. Thankfully I am a photographer and not a mathematician. We shall move on.

As your headshot does say so much about you, it is certainly a good idea to make it count. After all, you’ve worked hard to build a reputation, and your corporate headshot should reflect as much. I’ve included a few tips to help ensure that you make the most of it.

The Right Dallas Corporate Photographer -

First off, no matter much you prepare yourself for your headshot, it will be all for nothing if you don’t select the right photographer. This is an investment in yourself and the business that you do, and as with other investments, you want to make sure that you make the best possible choice the first time around.

So, when searching a Dallas headshot photographer, look for someone that has a solid portfolio of headshots that fit the look and style you want. You can tell a lot from photos, so how images are shot, lighting, angles, etc., and how comfortable the subjects look all communicate whether the photographer will be able to do the same thing for you. Photographers’ styles can vary greatly, so it is a personal decision. Just make sure that you pick on the quality of work first, with price as a secondary factor. If you go solely on price, you most likely will not be happy with the results. Remember, it won’t be worth the cost savings if you have to do it twice!

After you’ve selected a photographer whose style you like, and that you feel comfortable around, it is time to begin preparation. Now, photoshop is probably a word that I hear thrown around more than like or as, and it is true that Dallas headshot photographers often have many tools on the computer at their disposal. However, there are a few things that you can do on Dallas Headshot Photographeryour end to optimize your photography experience.

What To Wear

Granted, this may only be a shot of your head and shoulders, but you want to make sure that what you wear communicates who you are. After all, you definitely want to look like a rockstar, but you may not want to dress like one. Guys, this means look over your suits and sportcoats, and see what looks fresh, and looks like you. You are also going to want to decide whether you wear a tie or no tie, or go in a completely different direction. If you are wearing ties, make sure to find a style that leans more contemporary. I am all about personal style, but you also don’t wanting anyone thinking your headshot is a 1980’s glamour shot. Also, color is your friend. Neon, not so much. Get a cool pattern, but make sure it doesn’t take attention from your face. The best tip? Bring a few options, and your Dallas Headshot photographer can help you decide.

Ladies, wear something that you look good in, and that you think is flattering. Whether it is a suit jacket, blouse or top, you have to be comfortable in it if you want to look relaxed for your headshot. Make sure that the color you choose flatters your skin tone. For example, if you have lighter-colored skin you may not want to wear white or really light colors, as it could wash you out. I also recommend you wear solids, and stay away from bold stripes, heavy patterns, etc. You don’t want to wear something that is distracting or potentially unflattering. And of course, like the guys, feel free to bring a few options to discuss with your Dallas headshot photographer.

Stay tuned for my next post, where your Dallas headshot photographer will go over hair and makeup. Guys, you need to read this post too, don’t think you are exempt. There are a few things you can do in both of those departments to make your photographic experience the best it possibly can be.
