It’s Earth Day!

Hey guys, heads up that today is Earth Day! And even more that that, it is actually the 50th anniversary of Earth Day!

For several years I’ve enjoyed shooting and producing the stills content for Earth Day Texas, now officially known as EarthX. They describe themselves as the “World’s largest environmental expo, conference and film festival.” The event always falls right around the anniversary of Earth Day, and typically draws over 100,000 people over a weekend. My Dallas event photography team and I spread out all over Fair Park to cover the variety of meetings, speakers, exhibitions and film screenings to show how amazing this event is, and the impact they have on people’s mindsets regarding the environment.

For example, I never knew just how destructive plastic straws are for the environment and wildlife. They can’t even be recycled! I’ve seen how people think it’s ridiculous that something so small could be destructive, but when around 500 million straws are used per day in the US alone, you begin to see the impact. After covering some of the film screenings, I began to learn and see for myself what kind of damage is being done. My team has learned so much as well, and hopefully all of my Dallas event photographers have a takeaway to make this world just a little bit better.

I was all set and ready to go for this years’ Dallas event photography, but then COVID-19 had other plans. Since there are no large gatherings, and apparently 100k+ people qualifies as such, there will be no physical event at Fair Park this year. Since we won’t be creating new content this year, I thought it would be fun to go back through my archives, and pull out some of my favorite shots for you to check out.

It really is a fantastic event for the entire family, and if you are as much of a fan of learning as I am, this is the perfect place for you to go. I mean, where else can you make seed bombs, learn about environmental stewardship, check out an electric car show and scuba dive? I rest my case.

I firmly believe we are stewards of this Earth, and we all have to do what we can to take care of it. So, on behalf of my entire Dallas event photographer team, even though you can’t visit EarthX in person this year, make sure to go to earthx.org to see the virtual experiences they have for you!
