Dallas Corporate Photographer: Creating Powerful Headshots II

Hair and Makeup – As I get my haircuts with a razor set to ½, I don’t often have to worry about my hair, but if you aren’t like me and actually have hair, make sure that it looks good. I can always use photoshop to take care of parts that may stick out some or wispys, but I am not an electronic hair stylist. Ladies, if possible make sure that you have your hair done by a professional on the day of the shoot, or in the days leading up to the shoot. You want to look your best, and if your hairstyle isn’t how you want it, you may not be 100% happy with the outcome. Depending on the shoot, I also recommend you have a hair and makeup person with you to help make adjustments during the shoot. If you don’t have the luxury of having your own stylist on set, please make sure to bring hairspray and any other styling items you need to make adjustments with. 

Guys, please don’t roll out of bed and expect to look perfect. You too need to do a little preparation. If you are due up for a haircut, make sure to get it done several days or a week before your shot so that you aren’t looking shaggy or like you just had a haircut. If you use product in your hair, combs brushes, etc., make sure to bring them along if you need a quick spritz.

Makeup It’s not just for women. I don’t know a whole lot of guys that wear makeup all the time, unless they are newscasters, but just because you don’t wear make up regularly doesn’t mean a little touchup will hurt. More than anything, a dab of foundation usually helps to take the sheen off of your face, and just give your skin a better look. If you want to put on lipstick too… that’s your call. 

Now ladies, unless you don’t wear makeup, I do recommend you put it on a little heavier than normal. Still and motion cameras are picking up more detail than ever before, so a little more makeup makes sure to keep your skin looking great. As with the hair, if you can have a makeup artist do your makeup, it will be well worth the investment. They often are aware of the amount of makeup needed for photography, and can really make you look fantastic! It’s great if they can also be onsite, otherwise make sure to bring a bit along with you for touchups.

Rest - Finally, get some rest. As I like to say, all of us seem to burn the candle at three ends these days, and are often pretty tired because of it. I totally understand, as Dallas corporate photographers typically keep pretty crazy and unpredictable hours, but try to get a bit of rest in the days leading up to your shoot, and at least the night before if you can. After all, how much do you want to have your picture taken if you got three hours of sleep the night before? You probably don’t want to even interact with other human beings with so little sleep, much less do a headshot session. Getting a bit of shuteye will help you look better in your photo, more relaxed, and just generally more beautiful/handsome/awesome. That’s probably an overpromise, but it does make me want to go to sleep right now.
