Shooting The Anaheim Roller Coaster Experience

Well I went to Anaheim, California the other week, but it wasn’t to pay a visit to Mickey Mouse. I wrote recently about hiring a Dallas event photographer for when your company comes to Dallas and needs coverage, and have had the pleasure of working with many out of state corporations and organizations here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. However, in addition to local coverage I also travel out to do corporate event and corporate portrait shoots in locations all over the United States. Be it a multi-day conference in San Francisco or executive portraits in Las Vegas, I am happy to go wherever my clients need a photographer whom they trust and have worked with before.

I have had the distinct pleasure of being the photographer in Dallas for this particular client over the past several years. They have been growing by leaps and bounds, and it has been pretty cool to be able to document their journey. After photographing The Entrepreneur Roller Coaster Experience here locally, they suggested that I join them for the Anaheim leg of the conference. Before you know it, off I went. We were stationed just down the street from Disney Land, but I did not get to pay a visit unfortunately. I think once my little guy is old enough we can come back, and given his current affinity for ducks, I think he’s really going to like Donald.

It was great getting to travel to Anaheim, especially for the nicer weather. Texans can survive in 108-degree heat, heck I’ve played paintball in those kinds of temps, but cold is another story. I’ve done Dallas corporate event photography at many an event in blazing heat, which isn’t exactly the greatest, but I still think I would prefer that over the alternative. We do not take kindly to cold weather, especially when it sticks around for a while. It also doesn’t help when you have an incredible streak of really nice weather, then have the temperature take a roller coaster dive down below freezing. So suffice to say that the 70-degree temps were all right by me.

Speaking of roller coasters, back to the conference. I always talk about how I learn so many interesting things covering events, but this particular one appealed to me on a direct level. You see, the conference was targeted towards entrepreneurs, and helping them ride the roller coaster that is being a self-employed business owner. As the owner of my own photography business, there was an abundance of great advice and encouragement to be gleaned. Though I was working the event as a Dallas commercial event photographer to capture dynamic shots of both Darren Hardy, the speaker, and those in attendance, I still had the opportunity to soak up a few nuggets of valuable information throughout the day.

Darren is all about helping people unlock their potential so that they can achieve greater levels of success in their business pursuits. I thought the roller coaster was a perfect metaphor, and anyone that owns his or her own business can surely attest to this. I certainly can as an event photographer in Dallas. It is one heck of a ride, but at the end of the day is an unbelievable thrill. Honestly, life itself is quite the roller coaster, and learning to manage both the peaks and valleys is incredibly important. Ok, I guess I’ve begun to wax philosophical, so before I get too far into it, let me just say that it was a great shoot, and I really had a blast working with the entire crew. They are like one big family, so I’m glad to get to be a part. Enjoy the photos!
