5 Reasons You Need A New Headshot

Headshot Photographer Dallas

We’ve all been there. The world moves at such a breakneck pace, and it feels like if you don’t keep running you fall behind. Even as a photographer in Dallas who is constantly creating content, I definitely feel the pressure of trying to keep up, stay fresh and have current photos.

If you are like a lot of people out there, this can be overwhelming, but your headshot can be a great place to start. As if being hip wasn’t reason enough, here’s five reasons you should get a new headshot:

1. It’s been 10 years since you had a headshot done

Well, maybe 15. Could be 20? Yes, it’s ok to admit it’s been that long since you last had your Dallas professional headshots done. I promise I won’t tell anyone! That hairstyle you had may no longer be in style, so it’s probably a good idea to get something a little more current. Also, the laser background is probably not coming back, though I’ve been surprised before… I’m sure you look different than you did 15 years ago, so you need to make sure people recognize you.

2. You made a career/company change

You have entered a new season in your life, or perhaps have begun a new adventure. Whether it’s moving around in your industry or starting your own business, it’s the perfect time to shake things up and create a new look. As a Dallas headshot photographer, I have had the opportunity to photograph people at all different stages in their business lives, and get to work with a lot of people who are getting a business or brand off the ground.

3. Two words: Social Media

If you have ever forayed onto the Internet, and the fact you are reading this Dallas headshot photography blog is pretty convincing evidence, you know that there is a lot of content out there. You also know that in this day and age, you have to put a lot of content out there yourself. Whether it’s for your website, Facebook, LinkedIn profile or any other number of social sites, you have plenty of spaces that require a photograph. Now of course you could use that slightly less than professional pool party selfie, but given the amount of eyeballs the photo could be privy to, don’t you want something really pro?

4. That background is not working, and the lighting is kinda rough too

Let’s face it; some photographs just don’t quite line everything up. The light is a bit too harsh on your face, or it’s too flat and doesn’t have any dimension. Maybe you have a background that is really dark, or just looks completely outdated (see above note on lasers). If you can agree with either situation, it’s probably time for a new headshot. Getting a new photo taken by a headshot photographer near you gives you the opportunity to have contemporary lighting in a fresh setting, which makes you look very cutting edge.

5. Your last headshot…Well, you just don’t like it

Maybe it was the photographer, or maybe it was you. Either way, you don’t like your headshot. Every time you look at it, immediately a distinct shudder runs through your body. There’s a ton of reasons, but you know if try to avoid showing anyone your headshots, it’s probably time for a new headshot.
