Dallas Food Photographer: Sky High Cuisine

I took interiors for the Sky Canyon restaurants at Dallas Love Field Airport and DFW International Airport. Both spaces have very warm and relaxed interiors with a distinct Texas flair, quite how I would describe chef Stephan Pyles, who developed the concept. However, no matter how beautiful the interior of a restaurant, at the end of the day it is all about the food. Food photography in Dallas is one of my specialties, and is something that I am truly passionate about. I want to make sure that amazing food looks amazing when you see it in a menu or on a website. If you look at restaurant food shots and your mouth doesn’t immediately start to water, then something wasn’t done right.
In all of the photos you see, I wanted my Dallas food photography to truly do the food justice, while staying true to the feel of the concept. Everything is bright and inviting, and all of the styling was done in a way to give a casual feel to the dishes and drinks. My favorite example of this has to be the barbecued brisket sandwich with the lovely jicama coleslaw on top. If you look in the background, we have the swirled half-full beer mug that looks like someone just took a swig and set it down. It took a bit of effort to get the look and timing of the foam sliding down the glass just right, but I feel like it really paid off and made for a solid shot. I know I’d eat that any day. In fact, if I wasn’t writing this blog so late at night, I could go do a quick swing through the TSA checkpoint and grab a bite. Maybe next week.
I think that adding sauce to a dish has to be one of the best ways to really top off a dish. That extra bit of drip or drizzle can elevate a plating to another stratosphere if it’s done right. The braised bone in short rib that you see exemplifies this. There is that lovely pool of BBQ sauce off to the left of the rib while a nice drizzle around the center of rib just makes it tantalizing food photography in Dallas. Sweet mother of pearl, that looks mighty tasty.

All of the food photography has to make you want to put your hand through your computer screen (wouldn’t recommend it) and grab whatever it is off the plate and eat it with gusto. Drinks have to be equally appealing, which is why a food photographer in Dallas must pay careful attention to how fresh and refreshing all of the ingredients look in the drink photos. For instance, the lime in the margarita has to be sliced just so, and it has to be the best possible lime you can find. You are always going to go through a ton of mint to find the freshest looking pieces, and then replace them throughout shooting as they have a tendency to wilt pretty easily. The berries in the other drink totally make it look like a drink that will quench any thirst, especially with all of the bright bubbles.

All in all, I had such a great time making delectable food photography in Dallas, and am glad you were able to share in the images with me. Now you know the place to go when you have a flight out of DFW or Love Field. Make sure to grab a bite of that brisket sandwich for me!
