Corporate Lifestyle - What is That?

We are back baby! I mean, I’ve been working at the Dallas corporate photography game for what feels like non-stop for years now, but our blog went on a leave of absence for a little bit. Either it was trying to ‘find itself’, or that timing conveniently coincides with the birth of our third (and final) child. You decide.

Any way, I decided to focus on something that I’m seeing requested more often than ever before in the realm of Dallas corporate photography: Lifestyle. Or candids. Or working shots. It goes by a few different types of nomenclature, but it all boils down into the same look: real, authentic imagery of people that actually work for the company being depicted working for the company.

Similar to the images you see of people when products or services being promoted (Wow we are happy people that love eating these burgers, or I am having an awesome time hiking in the woods with this gear), lifestyle photography in the corporate photography realm helps the viewer to experience what it’s like to be at that company, and get a bit of insight into their culture. This can focus two different ways.

First, corporate lifestyle content can focus on showing potential clients the atmosphere of a particular company, and give insight into what they are doing, particularly when there is a lot of collaboration involved. Viewers can visualize that this particular organization is going to work hard at getting results for them, and that they are making it happen.

The other aspect of corporate lifestyle is for hiring. I’ve been shooting more corporate photography of this niche in the past few years, especially as companies go all out to hire the absolute best and brightest job talent in a fiercely competitive hiring climate. By allowing prospects to again get an insight into culture, see what the employees do at a particular organization, the fun they are having, the change they are creating, etc., they can put themselves in that place, and see if that’s somewhere they would not only fit in at, but thrive.

With either scenario, corporate lifestyle content really shows the best side of a company, and it is real. Everyone is seeking authenticity, and people and companies that will get real and be real with you. Most of the time we capture the actual employees, which only adds to the authenticity. Stock photography certainly has it’s place, but as this push towards the authentic only increases, I feel that we will see more and more companies using Dallas corporate photography to show their own people, and keep it real.
