What is a Commercial Photographer?

Commercial Photographers in Dallas, Jason Kindig

A few weeks back I wrote a blog about what a Dallas corporate photographer is, and what all their particular specialty covers. They are focused on the people and places behind a service or experience, and help you put a face, or place to a name.

The different fields of photography can have a bit of confusion to them; so hopefully in this blog series I am able to clear things up a bit for you. The next type of photographer I wanted to elaborate on is the Dallas commercial photographer.

This can be a pretty broad category of photography, but thankfully, the definition is pretty dang straightforward. Basically, the role of a Dallas photographer is to create images that will be used commercially, hence the name. But what does that really mean? It means that a commercial photographer will take photos of anything from people, interiors, food, clothing or any kind of product, in order to help the company sell more of a particular product or service. Like I said, pretty simple, but definitely a broad coverage of photography. Corporate photography is a bit of a tighter niche, and also happens to fall under the category of commercial photography.

After all, whenever I am out photographing attorneys, doctors, or businessmen and women, I am doing it to help them market and sell themselves better. Many fall into the professional services category, but it is all under the umbrella of commercial photography in Dallas.

I’ve included a few examples below that will help you see it even better:

Doors and windows.

Take, for example, a client who makes doors, and windows. These aren’t your ordinary doors and windows. They are super sturdy, and range in look from ornate to industrial. They create a beautiful product, which means that they have to have images created to show off how great the product is. After all, if people can see the product and the quality, then it gives the client more opportunity to sell more of their products. Enter commercial photography.

By hiring a commercial photographer in Dallas who is experienced in knowing the best lighting and angles to highlight the subject in any given situation, they can have compelling images created that showcase their product and make it enticing for consumers. Once the photographer has taken the images, and retouched them, now they are available to be used on a website, or even as part of an advertising piece in magazines, brochures or wherever else the client needs to use them.

Attorneys.

You have a great attorney who offers great lawyer services. She has recently moved into her own independent practice, and needs to take the reputation that she already has in the legal space and begin to build it into a brand. This means having a marketing presence, and having strong photos that can help her market on her website, social media, and anywhere else her potential clients may be looking. In deciding to hire a commercial photographer, she has chosen someone who is very knowledgeable about image and marketability, and what types of looks and backgrounds will help illustrate the caliber of her brand.

As in the previous example, commercial photographers have to know how to position the lighting and angles just so, but they also have to know how to pose when it comes to having people as the main emphasis.

So in summary, commercial photographers are all about creating images that help their clients sell more of a particular product, brand or service.

If it is something for sale, chances are pretty good that a commercial photographer will be the one who is taking the photos.
