Photographing The Process Behind Handcrafted Goods

Dallas Commercial Photographer, Jason Kindig

In this era of mass production, there is something so magical about handcrafted goods. Though I don’t necessarily create tangible goods all the time, I like to think of my Dallas commercial photography work as a craft. Thus I have a lot of respect and admiration for my fellow artisans.

I’m sure a lot of it stems from my dad. He has always been the epitome of a DIY guy. I always remember watching him build just about anything that you could imagine when I was a kid, and just wanted to be able to create things like he did. Now I have the pleasure of creating both images as a Dallas commercial photographer and also building all manner of projects at home. It would seem that the DIY genes carried on, which I’m pretty stoked about.

So all of that to say, I have deep respect for the art of handmade goods. When I have clients that make these kinds of products, and want to get commercial photography in Dallas done for them, I get pretty dang excited. Even with so much stuff being made overseas, there has definitely been a movement to slow down the process a bit and focus on making really high quality goods again here in the US. You can see it in everything from local breweries to hat companies to furniture makers. There is a definitely a place for mass goods, but there is also a place for handcrafted products.

Below are three reasons why you need to show off your building process through quality commercial photography:

Show Your Quality -

No matter what you may make, the process is incredibly important. There is so much time and energy that goes in to creating a high quality product, no matter what it may be. But when you build, craft or make the best, it’s not going to come without hard work. That’s why you need to make sure that for all of your marketing efforts, you show off the process of how your goods are made. Now obviously you don’t want to give away proprietary aspects, certain machinery, techniques, etc., but there are still plenty of parts of any process that can be shown without revealing your trade secrets. In displaying these aspects through artfully done Dallas commercial photography, you allow your potential customers to really visualize what it takes to make a high-end product. They can experience the cuts, the shaping, the sanding, the painting, or whatever details really show your attention to detail. This isn’t just a product that appears on a shelf in a box somewhere, but it is meticulously made – either by you or your team of artisans.

Justify Your Price Point -

In displaying the craft behind your work, it also helps people to see how much work goes into it, and can help to justify or explain your price points. Potential customers will be more comfortable in spending more when they can see how you are different from other cheaper items on the market. It’s all in the detail.

Provide Marketing Content –

One can never have enough content when it comes to having images for your website, social media pages, brochures or anything else you may have. People are insatiable for high quality content, so what better way to show how top-notch the items are that you create than through high qualityDallas commercial photography?

So remember, when you are wanting to market your amazing hand-crafted product, make sure to talk to a Dallas commercial photographer who can show off the behind the scenes portion of your products, and really allow consumers to experience the love and skill that goes into making everything that you sell.
